KARSP Legislative Priorities:
Strong recommendation —
Three percent across the board increase for Kansas
Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS) retirees.
Ongoing annual increase at three percent level or
tied to Consumer Price Index (CPI).
Support the elimination of any penalty for working
after retirement.
Support adequate state funding for public education
pre-kindergarten through the university level.
Provide adequate funding for the death and
disability program and increase KPERS retiree death
benefit to $5,000.
Support charter schools only when under control of
local boards of education.
Support opposition to the voucher system.
KARSP supports the Kansas Coalition of Retired
Public Employees, Kansas-AARP, and coalitions with
other professional organizations and educational
agencies working to improve public education and
public employee retirement benefits.
