Mary Lou Doris - The
Yes Lady.
By Lynda
Wheeler, KARSP Community Service
Mary
Lou Doris has a hard time saying “No”. Especially
when it comes to helping in her community. The
Pink Lady program at Great Western Plains Hospital,
the Democratic Women’s Board, Meals on Wheels Board,
Kansas Teacher Hall of Fame, Retired Senior
Volunteer Program (RSVP), and Southwest Area
Association of Retired School Personnel all benefit
greatly from Doris’ willingness to say “Yes” when
asked to help out.
When Doris isn’t organizing meal
delivery, hospital volunteers, or Stew and Soup
Supper fundraisers she and her husband Dennis are at
the newly redecorated train depot in Dodge City.
From 11:00 PM to 1 AM they open the depot doors and
welcome arriving passengers with a cup of freshly
brewed coffee and a place out of the weather to wait
for friends & family to pick them up.
As well as volunteering, Doris
works in her other hobbies of reading, crocheting,
and quilting. She and Dennis also love to travel.
They have been traveling since 1989 and have been to
56 countries, and on all seven continents.
SWAARSP is proud to have had this
hard working, loving, giving person in their
organization since her retirement in 1996. We are
all thankful for her valued dedication and
commitment to others.
