NRTA Award - Carolyn
Kuhn
By Lynda
Wheeler, KARSP Community Service. Information
provided by Kathy O’Mara of Emporia Area Retired
School Personnel.
NRTA (National Retired Teacher Association) gives a
National With Our Youth! Award each year to
an individual or unit that makes an outstanding
contribution to youth of our country. Another
category of recognition is the Dedication Award for
outstanding work with young people. This is to
highlight top contenders that merit distinction for
their exceptional work with youth.
Our own Carolyn Kuhn received the Dedication Award
in 2008 for her work with the William Allen White
book awards program and was presented a crystal
plaque at an Emporia Area Retired School Personnel
meeting. Carolyn has served three three-year terms
on the Book Selection Committee reading
approximately 175 books at 3rd thru 8th
grade levels in order to establish the book list
from which students pick their favorites. She has
helped with the Author-Student activities held each
year at ESU and attended by approximately six
hundred to eight hundred students.
